The
second
greatest gift I've ever received was a loving, nurturing childhood
home. Growing up in Conway, South Carolina, I was privileged
to
be the oldest son in a model home. My mother and father did
everything right as far as I can recall. Although we weren't
wealthy in worldly terms, I received lavish gifts of love and respect,
along with a heaping helping of hunting and fishing opportunity.
I will be forever grateful for this grand heritage.
My wife and son survive an annual four month "illness" and our two English Setters live for September 15th. Between bird seasons, I enjoy fishing, particularly when I can visit the canyon lakes situated in chukar country. Oh yes ... my greatest gift. I write this on March 21, 2008 -- Good Friday. Many years ago on this day, my greatest gift was arranged when Jesus Christ accepted the penalty for my sin, paying my debt on a lonely, cruel cross. Because of this gift, I live a life of freedom and joy, secure in the knowledge that I am loved beyond measure by the God of the universe. What could be better?
