Chukar
hunters are an ingenious lot. Because of the
rigors of
hunting in the high desert, we have adapted an interesting brew of
equipment and gadgets -- some for convenience and others for survival.
Here are some of my favorite "necessities" in chukar country: Dog boots Almost every dog will develop sore pads after an extended hunt in chukar country. After using every commercial boot I could find, I settled on a home remedy: motorcycle inner tubes. Click here for more information. Garmin Astro If you hunt with a wide ranging dog, this will be the best investment you've ever made. I bought one last year and it's saved me countless hours of looking for dogs. Last weekend, the Astro told me that Maggie was on point 915 yards away. Try that with a beeper. Quilomene vest For me, the Quilomene vest is indispensable. One of my favorite hunts is an all day affair, requiring me to carry enough water for 2 dogs and myself. The Quilomene vest has room for over one gallon of water and all of the other stuff I need for an extended trek. |
